Workforce Skills
Support is needed for business to overcome barriers of supporting people into work or to re-train to meet skills and labour shortages. Business must look more broadly at meeting their recruitment needs supporting skills training and basic skills training on-the-job and supporting diversity through language and cultural training support. Private sector investment is needed to support regeneration of communities.
The South London Skills Alliance has been put in place to address workforce development and business skill needs for the sub-region. The Skills Alliance will encourage greater business involvement and responsibility for training, shifting the emphasis to the private sector.
The sub-region also produces a high number of graduates which is an asset to the sub-region. However, there needs to be more opportunities in the sub-region to retain our graduates, through for example, enterprise and new business formation opportunities.
