Industrial Estates

The Wandle Valley is identified as one of London’s four regeneration corridors and accounts for a significant amount of employment and industrial estates, many of which are designated as Preferred Industrial Locations. There are also a large number of other important industrial locations in the sub-region which are significant employers offering a range of job opportunities.

Some industrial estates have benefited from previous regeneration support. However, business retention remains an issue and more resources are needed for larger scale refurbishment, environmental improvements and the supply, cost and quality of premises on industrial estates and scattered employment sites. Industrial and commercial estates must be well managed with a holistic approach to tackling issues to do with image, access, crime, and transport. The good practice from the south London ‘Manufacturing Excellence Programme’ can be built upon.
