Planning

A growing population is placing pressures on land for employment, open space, housing, health services, transport and waste management. Quality of life is south London’s competitive advantage within London, but this is under threat from growth in the immediately adjacent areas outside the M25 and south east region.

In order to sustain the quality of life in our communities, area development will need to ensure the availability of good family housing, good schools, hospitals and transport etc. Lack of investment and resources to maintain the urban public realm and green spaces; crime and fear of crime; litter; vandalism; fly tipping and congestion are all of increasing concern to residents and businesses alike.

Whilst decisions of land use and other services will remain at the local level, there is a need for on-going collation of information about supply and demand for land and the impact on the sub-regional infrastructure.
