Transport

Due to the nature of the public transport infrastructure in south London, road will continue to play a key role in commercial activity – although the experience from tramlink suggests that a reliable, convenient and fast orbital public transport network would encourage significant movement away from the private car. Thus, there will always be a need for a good road network to ensure that business can remain competitive through access for customers and deliveries and for recruitment of staff.

A business friendly transport strategy is needed for sub-regional competitiveness to include: getting buses into deprived estates and failing district centres to help secure local jobs for local people and getting customers to district centres; park and ride schemes to provide access to Surrey and Gatwick Diamond opportunities; freight access; and business consultation into the development of a transport strategy.
