Go South Go
Cultural Festivals Conference :
A successful conference was held on Wednesday 19th September for the Go South Go Cultural Festivals group at Wimbledon Odeon with almost 40 delagates attending. A musician entertained delegates whilst they enjoyed the venue and refreshments.
The Arts Council London provided a national updated and group discussions were based around the handover of the Beijing Olympic torch for which there were many fantastic ideas.
The conference followed the first meeting which was held in February from which the attached "Statement of Principles for Cultural Olympiad" was produced.

Wandle Forum
Wandle Forum AGM :
A very successful first AGM for the Wandle Forum was held on 6th Sep 2007 at Morden Cottage in Morden Hall Park. Exciting progression is being made with project development and many Wandle themes being promoted including the development of a new regional park in the Wandle Valley.

The 2007 Annual Conference 'Building Schools for the Future - An Opportunity to Increase Participation in Sport and Physical Activity' took place on Monday 26th November at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon.

Tram Train, the Third Way Forward?
On Monday the 12th November 2007, the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Light Rail met to consider the merits of Light Rail, in the form of Tram Trains, as a means of increasing rail traffic on feeder heavy rail lines into towns and cities. This was an open meeting, where MPs and other interested parties were addressed by three speakers and were able to make pertinent observations and ask relevant questions.
Paul Rowen MP, Chairman of the Group, opened the meeting by introducing the first speaker, Mr Tom Harris MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department for Transport, having a responsibility for Light Rail. The other two speakers were Mr Ian Ambrose, Future Railway Development Manger, Network Rail and Mr Tony Young, an independent light rail consultant.

Gatwick Meet the Buyers 2007
SLP was a co-sponsor once again of the Gatwick eet the Buyers which was held in June. The 2006 event was particularly successful with 27 businesses from south London attending and a total of £4million plus additional business generated for the suppliers. This year 36 businesses from south London attended as suppliers and two businesses attended as buyers: Veermount Technology (Kingston) and Plastico (Merton). Plastico is a big fan and has attended 8 Meet the Buyers in south London and (latterly) Gatwick. Early results show 93% of buyers anticipate that they will do business with the suppliers they met.
Go South Go, UKTI and Business Link were there to represent south London.

Making Sense of the New Sub-Regions: Seminar 26th June 2007
A seminar was held on 26th June at the prestigious Dorich House in Kingston to consider the implications of the new southwest sub-region (Wandsworth, Lambeth, Richmond, Kingston, Merton, Sutton and Croydon) from a range of perspectives, including: transport; the suburbs, socio-economic factors; and the potential role of Higher Education in this new sub-region. Over 60 delegates attended and enjoyed lunch and a tour of the 1936 built Dorich House

South London's Cultural Festival
An event to generate ideas to celebrate the Olympic Games in South London was held on the 26th February 2007 at Braithwaite Hall, Croydon Clock Tower with 80 delegates attending from the arts and cultural sector. The 150 plus ideas produced are now shaping the 4 year action plan which will take us from the close of the Beijing Games to the London Games and beyond

Winning New Business Procurement Workshops
A series of workshops were held 15th - 23rd May 2007 to help businesses win contracts in the private and public sector particularly opportunities available through the London 2012 Olympic Games. A total of 275 delegates attended the workshops which were held in Bromley, Croydon, Wandsworth, Kingston and Merton.
Overall the workshops were very well received and a huge success.

All Party Parliamentary Group Meeting
The All Party Parliamentary Group for Light Rail met on 24th April 2007 to examine the benefits Light Rail has brought to the city of Manchester, and to discuss the role Light Rail has to play in stimulating local economies, and pushing urban regeneration in other city regions. This was an open meeting where MPs and stakeholders within the light-rail community had the opportunity to discuss and debate light-rail in 2007.
