Future Growth in the Outer London Economy
by: Professor Ian Gordon, LSE London
published: 01/12/2006 00:00:00
The Mayor's latest economic projections for Outer London predict slow or even negative growth in the coming decade. This contrasts starkly with both central London and the areas bordering Greater London, which all have strong employment growth projected. Outer London is a low growth ring surrounded by high growth on either side.
The sub-regional partnerships with an interest in Outer London commissioned Professor Ian Gordon (London School of Economics) to: -
• Review and compare the methodologies used to develop the economic projections in the London, Eastern and South East Regions;
• Consider the impacts of these projections
His report is now available and can be downloaded here.
This work is timely as the public consultation on the proposed alterations to the London Plan has been submitted, while Transport for London’s long term investment strategy (Transport 2025), has recently been consulted on. Both reviews use these latest employment projections in their policy making.
